Bahamas Covid Travel Restrictions For Spring 2022

The Bahamas are one of the most popular Caribbean destinations as its travel restrictions are relatively limited. Before flying or cruising to this island paradise, knowing the latest Covid travel restrictions is essential.

Bahamas Entry Requirements

There are several entry guidelines for vaccinated and unvaccinated visitors to the Bahamas. These requirements are not the most lenient among Caribbean destinations but are more flexible than many international travel restrictions.

Bahamas Travel Health Visa

All travelers must complete a travel health visa application. Parents or legal guardians can complete forms for children 17 years or younger.

Inbound guests should complete this online form at least 24 hours before arrival to avoid processing delays.

The travel health visa cost depends on the stay length but is usually between $40 and $60. Children 10 years or younger can be eligible for free travel health visas.

This non-refundable fee also includes the cost of mandatory Covid-19 travel insurance for the stay duration.

Pre-Arrival Testing

All tourists must upload a pre-arrival test no more than 72 hours before departure. The 3-day testing window applies to vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers.

Vaccinated adults at least 12 years old and children between ages two and 11 can upload either a rapid antigen test or an RT-PCR test.

Unvaccinated travelers at least 12 years old must upload a negative Covid-19-RT-PCR test. Rapid testing is not currently an option for this travel group.

There are no testing requirements for children younger than two years.

Inter-Island Testing Requirements

Since April 2, 2022, the Bahamas no longer require unvaccinated tourists to obtain a negative follow-up test before traveling to another island.

No Quarantine Period

There is currently no mandatory quarantine period for visitors and returning citizens with a negative pre-arrival test result.

Currently, the Bahamas have a CDC Level 1 “Low” coronavirus threat level. This is the lowest risk level.

Mask Mandate

Unlike the United States federal mask mandate going away, a Bahamas public mask mandate is still active for activities requiring close contact like:

  • On commercial transit or in transportation hubs
  • Traveling by taxi
  • Checking into a hotel
  • Standing in line

Masks are optional on the beach, but social distancing is expected.

Summary

The entry requirements for the Bahamas are reasonable and easy to achieve. Most people can enter by acquiring a travel visa and having a negative pre-arrival test. While on the islands, it’s vital to follow the local safety guidelines.
